 A manifesto... Long time ago, poets and writers used to be the conscience of society. Dictators knew that, killed them or put them in jail. Nowadays, although we notice again and again that the world goes more towards a global dictatorship (either soft of brutal, physical or mental), than to a global village, few opposition happens. The world leaders meet and talk but what is the result? Pollution as usual... At a meeting of The Club of Budapest in Paris, the founder, Erwin László, emphasised the importance and urgent need of planetary consciousness in order to avoid the irrevocable destruction of our planet. For the first time in history, INTERNET offers the possibility to communicate fast and cheap world-wide. When I founded POINT (stands for POetry INTernational) in 1984, I had the idea to realise a "conversation" between human beings from all continents by translating and publishing modern poetry from all over the world. And yes, it worked! After having published some 60 books I am so happy to see that the top 20 of my friends are mainly "foreigners". Only when we change our little world a bit, the big one will change at least...a bit. So it is our uncompromising goal : To do something, how ever little and futile it might be, for a more poetic, a more peaceful, a more human world We therefore have been and continue to invite leading poets from all over the world to send us poems related in the most ample sense, to concern about global pollution (of any kind), authorising POINT to translate and publish them on its website in several languages. Many poets responded favourable, so that we offer our readers an exclusive selection of poems from all over the world, written by the world's best known and unknown poets, just as POINT's " publications in book have been since its foundation in 1984. If all goes well, we would publish those poems in several languages: in English, Spanish and Dutch. If successful, in more. So please join Points Poetic Manifesto and mail us suitable poems by the leading poets of your country in your language as well as the translation in one of the following languages (those from which we can translate so far): Catalan, Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish. At present we aim to have poetry published from as many countries as possible by leading poets. However, we intend to publish in the future on our site the best environmental poems we receive from our less famous) readers.
