The dark death of the orange trees<\/p>\n

blinds my eyes;<\/p>\n

orange and dry, rises the moon<\/p>\n

behind a sea of lead.<\/p>\n

In the distance, the mountain breathes blue air;
\nthe sea wets it, in its slumber. And so the shadow falls,<\/p>\n

for centuries, over the ache of its roughness.<\/p>\n

The houses open their eyelids,<\/p>\n

the hillside lights up, trembling,<\/p>\n

the heart yearns for beings it does not know;<\/p>\n

and other beings return to remembrance.<\/p>\n

Invisible, an air of jasmine<\/p>\n

penetrates my shirt, from my flesh it lifts<\/p>\n

light sweat; and this blown dust<\/p>\n

is lost in the night,<\/p>\n

deaf gravedigger of my time.<\/p>\n

It was the merciful day,<\/p>\n

and to the worn-out earth, grateful,<\/p>\n

I look lovingly,<\/p>\n

for the gentleness with which I die today.<\/p>\n
