\nTale of a Faithful Wife<\/strong><\/p>\n

When you winged to a distant land of blue mountains,<\/p>\n

I didn’t weep badly as faithful wives do,<\/p>\n

didn’t indulge in fictional loneliness like a few,
\nfor you left your body odour with me.<\/p>\n

I, in our nest on laburnum top,<\/p>\n

awaiting the small bites of love<\/p>\n

you might bring for me.<\/p>\n

Bathed in morning light, I start my day,<\/p>\n

turning leaves of holy scriptures; all be well.<\/p>\n

For lunch daily waiting for friends,<\/p>\n

in lazy afternoons, thoughts draw crisscross of light and shadow.<\/p>\n

When stars are the neighbours, who could quarrel with the moon?<\/p>\n

Where’s the chance to be sad?<\/p>\n

Clouds teach me to fly.<\/p>\n

But that evening when the guffaw of wind entered my room<\/p>\n

and overturned my candles,<\/p>\n

in evening prayers I understood,<\/p>\n

far away from me, the ribs of my love,<\/p>\n

were being broken mercilessly.<\/p>\n

That night came the first rain of the year<\/p>\n

\u00a0and from that day, rain falls<\/p>\n

to write a whole book of unfeigned sorrow.<\/p>\n

Beauty soothes little, the desolate heart,<\/p>\n

laburnum top is now my burning pyre.<\/p>\n
