For Paul Celan, Peter Szondi, Jean Améry,
who did not want to go on living

The rope

tied prisoner-style from bed sheets

the bed sheets on which I wept

I wind it around me

diver’s rope

around my body

I jump off

I dive

away from the day

through it

I emerge

on the other side of the earth

There I want

to breathe more freely

there I want to invent an alphabet

of active letters.
